University of Targu Mures Medical Campus Hamburg

University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology of Targu Mures (UFMST) in Romania has opened a new campus for medical studies in Hamburg: University Targu Mures Medical Campus Hamburg (UMCH).

UMCH is not a new university, it has over 70 years of experience in education and research. The establishment of the new campus in Hamburg is a testament to the university’s success and sustainable teaching methods. The school places strong emphasis on international collaboration and offers exchange semesters at partner universities in France, Italy, Turkey, and Austria. In Hamburg, the goal is for half of the students to be international (non-German).

Wide Hospital Network

UMCH collaborates with numerous renowned hospitals across Germany, where most students begin their clinical training from the third academic year onward. Even during the first and second years, students participate in shorter practical rotations. Securing an internship through UMCH is considerably easier than at many Eastern European, a major advantage of studying here. Graduates also have excellent job prospects at these partner hospitals, with starting salaries from €6,000 per month, notably higher than many other European countries.

The university campus is located in Bahrenfeld, Hamburg, also known as “Science City,” one of Germany’s most attractive academic districts. It is easily accessible by car or public transport and is known for being one of the greenest and most prosperous areas in the city.

Hamburg

The Hanseatic city of Hamburg beautifully combines old-world charm with modern innovation. Visit the historic Speicherstadt warehouse district, now a UNESCO World Heritage site filled with museums, restaurants, and exhibitions. This area attracts many artists, publishers, and creative professionals. Other highlights include the impressive Rathaus (City Hall) with its tall tower rising over the skyline.

Hamburg also offers excellent shopping opportunities, from Colonnaden and its nearby streets with famous brands to major shopping centers like Hanse Viertel and Europa Passage. In other neighborhoods such as Eppendorf, Pöseldorf, and St. Pauli, you’ll find unique boutiques and local treasures.

The nightlife in Hamburg is equally vibrant. The Reeperbahn, one of Europe’s most famous entertainment districts, is home to numerous bars, casinos, clubs, and theaters. Each year, over 25 million visitors come to enjoy this lively part of the city, which only quiets down when morning light appears.

Leisure time

As part of the curriculum, students also participate in sports classes held on the university campus. The nearby sports complex, covering 3,000 m², includes a 25-meter swimming pool, wellness area, gym, fitness center, and spinning room, offering plenty of opportunities to stay active throughout your studies.

All sports activities are free of charge for UMCH students. If you wish to continue training after hours, you can purchase discounted memberships through Aktive Freizeit (VAF), which operates the sports center.
